DAL BATI

INGREDIENTS:

For the batis (for 8 baatis)
2 cups whole wheat flour
4 tbsp melted ghee
salt to taste


For the dal
1/2 cup chana dal
1/3 cup tur dal
1/2 cup moong dal (split green gram)
1/2 cup onions
2 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
a pinch of asafoetida
2 tsp dried mango powder
3 tbsp ghee
lemon juice as required
salt to taste


METHOD:

For the dal:
Step 1: Clean and wash the dals and add 3 cups of water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles or till the dals are cooked.

Step 2: Heat the ghee in a pan and cumin seeds, asafoetida, onions. saute till onion turns brown in colour

Step 3: then add chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt as required

Step 4: then add dal and stir it well.

Step 5:add some water as per the consistency of dal and lime juice as required.

For the batis:
Step 1: Mix wheat flour, salt, ghee and water. knead into a firm dough.

Step 2: Make 8 equal parts into an even round shape

Step 3 : Arrange the batis over cookie sheet on a tray bake at 450 degree F in a oven on broil mode for 10 minutes. Turn them over and bake for another 10 minutes until batis are golden brown all around. Break one bati from one side to make sure they have cooked through

Step 4: Break each bati and pour dal to it and drizzle some ghee .
